WHEN JUSTICE HAS A WITNESS: A MESSAGE TO THOSE WHO HOLD THE LAW

Image
To the judges. To the attorneys. To the guardians ad litem (GAL). To the court investigators. To every individual entrusted with the law and the power to shape lives— Do the right thing when you have the opportunity. Today, you may sit in a position of authority. You may wear the title of  judge ,  attorney ,  investigator ,  conservator , or  guardian . But remember this truth:  positions are temporary—consequences are not. When you know the truth,  act on it . Do not allow bias to blind justice. Do not let the color of a person’s skin, their accent, their wealth, or their lack of power determine whether they are protected or abandoned. We are all human. Justice was never meant to be selective. You took an oath. An oath to protect. An oath to fight for justice. An oath to stand between innocence and abuse. And yet—too often—those oaths are broken in silence. When an innocent person is allowed to suffer while a criminal is protected, justice is not mer...

They have stayed away from criminal activity, obeyed the law, and tried to be good human beings. Yet, despite all this, they find themselves facing deep injustice. And the painful truth is this: The very system meant to protect the innocent is often the reason they suffer. The law and the legal system were created to defend truth, uphold justice, and protect those who cannot protect themselves. But increasingly, we see a system that shields criminals while leaving innocent people exposed, silenced, and broken. Let this be clear: There  are  good judges. There  are  honest attorneys. There  are  ethical law enforcement officers. But they are becoming rare. Too often, the law is influenced not by truth, but by  skin color, financial power, political connections, and p...
