Many people believe that petitioning for a conservatorship is the safest and most compassionate solution when a loved one is vulnerable. I believed that too.

I thought bringing in a conservator would protect my family, help reunite my husband with his loved ones, and bring stability during one of the most difficult chapters of our lives.

Instead, from my perspective, it became the beginning of a long legal battle—one that has brought emotional exhaustion, financial hardship, uncertainty, and countless sleepless nights.

As a self-represented litigant, I now spend countless hours researching laws, preparing court documents, meeting filing deadlines, and fighting for what I believe is in the best interest of my husband and our family. That is not what I expected when I asked for help.

No family should have to endure this.

No husband or wife should have to watch their family struggle through prolonged legal proceedings.

No child should carry the emotional weight of wondering when life will finally return to normal.

A Conservatorship Should Never Become a Trap

A conservatorship exists to protect a person when it is truly necessary.

But if the family who petitioned for that conservatorship later believes it is no longer needed—or believes it is no longer serving its intended purpose—should seeking its termination become another painful legal battle?

That is a question worth asking.

They should not fear that asking for help today could make it extraordinarily difficult to regain control tomorrow.
